Hello list!
Can anyone help me with my great-grandfather? I keep coming back to him but
without any success (so far) in getting much further backward.
The earliest I believe I have him is in the 1881 census:-
Piece 4608 Folio 138 Page 5
Harriet SYKES, Female, Widow, Head, age 51, b. Barnsley
James SYKES, Male, Unmarried, Son, Scholar, age 11, b. Barnsley
Also at the same address, but given as a separate household is who I presume
to he another son of Harriet:
Piece 4608 Folio 138 Page 5
Henry SYKES, Male, Married, Head, age 27, Coal Miner, b. Barnsley
Ellen SYKES, Female, Married, Wife, age 27, b. Dronfield
In the 1901 census (definitely him) he gives his age as 34 and his birthplace
as Birdwell. I can find nothing on LDS IGI or BMD relating to any event in
the lives of Harriet, Henry or James and even Henry and Ellen have disappeared
by 1901.
Any assistance and suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
