Brian and Fay,

Thanks for your ideas on why a bride who's parents were the marriage
witnesses would have lied about her age (groom lied about his too).

They were indeed expecting, family story has it that the groom's father
insisted they marry when he found out about the pregnancy, supposedly a big
broo-ha because she was their housemaid. Still, not sure why that would
cause them to lie about their age. Bride was 20, groom either 19 or 20. If
anyone was unhappy about the marriage I would surmise it was the couple, the
groom abandoned the bride shortly after the baby was born and ran off to
India with another woman. In fact, I have often wondered if the bride's
parents were witnesses just to ensure that the groom fulfilled his
'obligation' and didn't leave her standing, pregnant, at the altar!
