I've looked into Joseph and his father Jacob today, in the 1881 census, and
find that at that time they were labourers at the tannery in Combs
(something I can remember being able to smell when I was young, if the wind
was from the southeast!). Jacob was born in Stowupland, my famil's village,
so was probably a distant relative of mine, but not an ancestor. Thanks
anyway.
