Hello Listers
My first post so here's my Merseyside ancestry. I'm from Liverpool, my
ancestors, I suspect like may others, converged on the great city around the
middle of the 19th century from all over the country:
Great-grandparents Nathan JACKSON (1856) and Ellen HALSALL (1857) both from
Southport. Their daughter Clara married:
Charles GRIFFITHS (1868) b Liverpool, his parents were Charles Griffiths
(c1840) b Shrewsbury, and Hannah DICKINSON (1845) whose parents came to
Liverpool from Westmorland and Suffolk
Great-Great-grandmother Catherine DAVIES (c1830) was b Chester, the family
seem to have moved to Birkenhead where she married William GREEN from
Nottingham. He ran a pawnbroker business (several shops) around Brownlow
Hill, Liverpool. The Davies family may originally have hailed from Denbigh
William & Catherine's daughter Kate married an Irishman Robert MONTGOMERY
(brickwall!!) in Liverpool
Two Welsh Great-grandparents - Robert THOMAS (1868) from Treuddyn,
Flintshire (but the family was originally from Cheshire - Aldford,
Eccleston) and Jane EDWARDS (from deepest west Wales!) They ran a dairy in
Little St Bride St.
This all costs me a small fortune in FHS subscriptions!
My great-grandfather Charles Griffiths was married in the Richmond Hall
according to the rites of the Primitive Methodists, his son was active in
the Lodges (Temperance Lodge 2714 and IOGT). If anyone reading this is still
awake (!) I'd be most interested in any sources for these organisations.
Thanks for reading
Brian
