Hi, Dorothy,
You ask about possible burial places for John HAIGH, died 1844 at Limefield.
At this time, there were burial grounds attached to the Anglican churches of
St Mary (Parish Church), and St John (Stanley Street), and possibly the
graveyards at the then new churches of St Paul (Bell Lane) and All Saints
(Elton) were open. There were also burial groups attached to several of the
non-conformist chapels, including the Unitarian Chapel (Bank Street), Union
Street Methodist, Brunswick Methodist (eventually one of the larger
graveyards), New Congregational Chapel, Bethel Chapel, and possibly the
Baptist Church. There may well have been others, but there was not an RC
graveyard.
If you check the list of transcripts available from the Lancashire Family
History & Heraldry Society ( www.lfhhs.org.uk go to Shop then Microfiche)
you will see that some of these records have been published. If you live in
the area, the next meeting of the Bury Branch (second Wednesday in August)
is a research evening) when even more of these transcripts will be available
for use.
I have a partial compilation of burials in Bury but I did not find John
HAIGH in it.
However, I did find in Brunswick graveyard, in grave P1199 -
Isabella Haigh of Limefield Buried 15-Sep 1864 aged 82 [calc birth year
1782]
I will ask my contacts to see if anyone knows of a record for John HAIGH.
Hope this helps
Jim Lancaster (Bury, Lancs.)
