Hi Sue,

I see you're having an exciting weekend too! :-)

I've been playing around with the 1881 census. We don't know where George's
children may have placed themselves for census purposes - as we know Thorns
Cottages are a good few miles from Beaulieu - and indeed from anywhere! When my
brother was living down Thorns Lane he had a Lymington postal address and phone
code.

I started with Eliza - er, quite a few of those. I'm not happy with a younger
sister called Elizabeth either. Could Eliza have died? Anyway there are a couple
of Elizas born Lymington - one the wife of Edward Bungay in Millbrook, and one
married to George Cooper in Lymington. You may like to check these out?

Then I had a look for young James Thorn - could he have joined the army? There
is a James Thorn born 1862 in Fort Rowner, Alverstoke. Unfortunately he gives
his place of birth as Southampton - but then so do a lot of the others! How
careful would the officer filling out the census return have been about birth
places? On the down side there were Thorns in Southampton too.
:-(

Didn't have time to do any more and don't know how much time you've spent
either!!

Bye for now,

Marion
