Hi List

Lest I offend, let me say straight away I have seen this request and the
answers, check the websites – but when I googled, could not find a useful
website.  So


I have two possible family certs which I will buy if they are likely to
provide enough info.

They are a marriage in 1896 and a birth in 1900 – maybe to the same family. 
I will include the info I have found.

Birth  - Sep Quarter 1900  BERNHARDT Robert Frederick at Stockton (10a, 50)

I find from the 1901 census his parents are Henry and Maggie.  Dad was born
in Islington 1863 or thereabouts, and Mum and baby in Stockton.  They are
living though in Morva House, Ramsgate – or at least are there for census
night.


I went looking for a marriage for parents (I suspect, if Henry is my g
grandfather, there is not one; it would be bigamous if one existed).
Marriages Jun Quarter 1896, at Rochdale – Henry BERNHARDT married either
Gertrude HARRIS or Mary Ann RIGG.  I wonder if Mary Ann could not be Maggie?


Whilst I know I can find out who married who on the marriage cert, what
other info is likely to be on both certs?  I do not have money to waste on
“maybe”s!

Of course, I would like to know how close Rochdale is to Stockdale.  I did
check the districts on freebmd but it did not tell me much as an outsider to
England!  Best of all would be if someone knows this family, of course!

1891 census Henry is still with my g gran and their six children, in 4
Foremans Cottages, the Grange, Vane Terrace, St Giles, The Grange, Durham –
born Islington in 1860.  I think it is him with de facto Maggie in 1901, but
– how to prove it?

I cannot find Henry on 1861, 1871 or 1911 censuses.  I suspect he may later
have used the forename David but I can’t find that either.  The one possible
will (he died before 1943 and I suspect 1837ish) has gone missing from the
English records storage place.  GRRR..

Help please – I know the info on English certs is much less than the info on
our local ones, but just what is there I do not know.  We don’t have your
censuses though..
