Good morning
Does anyone have a connection with this family? Wm and Mary Fogwell moved here in the late 1780s. (Mary was the young widow of Richard Elworthy of West Alvington. She met and married Wm when he was a member of the South Devon Militia)
The Fogwell boys became local masons.
I have Mary's death certificate for 1838 which says she was the widow of the sexton. Was this an unpaid job? I'm wondering whether he would appear on the records as being paid by the church.
I'd love to hear from anybody researching either the Fogwells, or the South Devon Militia.
Best wishes
Beth Drummond
