What a good list. Marvellous idea! My Great Great Granddad was John
Savage, born in Bilston. By 1871 he was living in Pendlebury with his wife
and children. He worked in the mine owned by Andrew Knowles. By 1881 he was
in Castleford, Yorks, with some of his children. By then his wife had died -
the second ever burial at St Augustine's Pendlebury in 1874. By 1891 all
the Savages seem to have moved back to Pendlebury area, although I have not
yet traced the death of John. I do not know how long they stayed in
Yorkshire, but not long I think. The 1881 census shows a lot of families
from Staffordshire living in and around Castleford. I am interested in any
mentions of the name SAVAGE that you helpful people may come across. Good
luck to you all in your research. Steve.
