According to documents out of Amsterdam there was a family that came to New Amsterdam on board the Sacred Heart.Their Surname Was spelled VanOy in Staten Island Records it was spelled Vanoy with Variations of Vannoy/Vanhoy/Vanoy. Supposedly the family originally came from Alsace-Lorraine, France. There are no records to prove that since they were Huguenouts and no record was ever kept to show which families did escape persecution. I have read Hook's book and find a little off line along with other books that have been published by several individuals that have tried to cover the entire scope of the Vanhoy family. One thing, There are still families in the Ausburg area that are name Vanoise which is thought to be the actual origin of the name.
