Subject: North Carolina Apprenticeship Records lecture, October 10th
Date: Thu, 29 Sep 2005 21:18:52 -0700 (PDT)

Hi all. I wanted to let everyone know of an online event going on that is
relevant to all these surnames (As I've seen all these surnames in NC) but
Coventry and Hupp, and maybe there is someone on those lists with lines in NC
who would benefit. Quite a few of you know that I host genealogy chats at
http://www.genealogyforum.org for Southern US genealogy and my cohost and I
have decided to start holding short classes and lectures during our chat. Our
first class/lecture will be on October 10th (Monday night in 2 weeks) from
9-10pm EST. The topic will be using North Carolina apprenticeship records in
our genealogy research. Here are some of the things I will talk about:

1. Laws regulating apprenticeships
2. What can you learn from apprenticeship records
3. Where you can find apprenticeship records
4. A Q&A session where I can answer your questions and hopefully give advice
for specific situations

There may be some instances where I can volunteer to do lookups in the state
archives *and I will take requests during the talk* but my time is limited so I
will be going case by case. You don't need to give me sob stories to get me to
do a lookup, hehe, most likely I can help, but that is just something we can
discuss during the talk.

What I cannot do:
1. I cannot give advice or do lookups on apprenticeship records outside of NC.
Different states had different ways of handling apprenticeship records and I
only know NC and I don't have access to records in other states

If you have ancestors in NC, please come and join us, Monday night, October
10th, 9-10pm EST in http://www.genealogyforum.org (enter the chat room, no need
to enter a password). Hope to see some folks there and good luck to everyone
with their research!
