Don't know if you realized this, but from your email it seems you think that Asheville, NC is located in Ashe County. This is incorrect (although I could see why you'd come to that conclusion). Asheville is actually located in Buncombe County. Buncombe County is located in the south western portion of the state while Ashe County is in the north western corner of the state. County maps of USGenWeb are a good source to figure out location of counties and clicking on county information can sometimes help narrow down the location of city . I also maintain a website of NC counties (some, not all) and there is a township map for Ashe county located at http://ashe.ncalhn.org/ and the main site is http://www.ncalhn.org. Good luck and please feel free to contact me with further questions about NC geography. I do have a book that has township maps for all of NC and I have a NC Gazetteer with more specific information. I am descended from the Eller/McNeill family in Ashe and Wi!
