Subject: [ELLER] Help re: John Eller, age 48, 1870 Audrain Co., Missouri Census
Date: Thu, 24 Jul 2003 17:46:34 EDT

I guess we never stop learning or finding new clues about our ancestors.
I thought I was aware of all the ELLER families living in the Audrain &
Callaway County, Missouri area and how they fit into my ancestral history. That
is until this morning when I was "playing around" & searching the 1870 Audrain
Co., MO Census Index posted on Ancestry.com!
Can anyone identify John Eller, a 48-yr. old farmer who was born in
Virginia (about 1821-1822)? He apparently moved to Missouri before 1849 and owned
quite a bit of land in Salt River township (valued at $10,000) as well as
$2,000 worth of personal property.
It appears that he was widowed sometime between 1867-1870 in that he
had a 2-yr. old son, but no wife was listed. Besides John, the following people
were recorded in the household:

ELLER, John, 21, M, W, farming, born in MO
ELLER, Samuel, 18, M, W, farming, born in MO
ELLER, Sonetta (?), 16, F, W, at home, born in MO
ELLER, Malinda, 15, F, W, at home, born in MO
ELLER, Anna, 13, F, W, at home, born in MO
ELLER, Ira, 10, M, W, at school, born in MO
ELLER, Manda, 9, F, W, at school, born in MO
ELLER, Jefferson, 7, M, W, at school, born in MO
ELLER, Abram, 2, M, W, born in MO

Also in the home was a 50 year old black female and a 5 year old black male
who the censustaker assigned the name ELLER to as well...

ELLER, Manda, 50, F, B, born in KY
ELLER, Moses, 5, M, B, born in MO

I will be extremely grateful to whoever might be able to shed some light on
this ELLER family.
Thanks,
Rod Green, Ashland, MO.
