Dear Jim,
Thank-you for your willingness to share! I know you have put in a lot of time and effort collecting your information. I look forward to your book being available.
I would be happy to share information about my Eller line. I've only been gathering things seriously the last few months, and don't yet have a genealogy program on my computer. We're getting ready to move (to the Bellingham area), so I'm painting, packing, house-hunting, plus looking for a new job. (My husband's already working in Bellingham at the Bellingham Herald.) Also we're planning a daughter's wedding in December (great timing on her part -- but, she's worth it). My plan is to work on a gedcom as soon as we're settled, but it may take a little while.
I do have hard copies of my cousin's information. If you are interested, I'd be happy to make photocopies and send them snail mail if you give me your address. They're not all in standard order, but some are interesting, especially a few letters from oldtimers. His name is Larry Spurling, and he lives in Portland, OR, now. He lives alone, and his only daughter is apparently totally uninterested in his research. He has leukemia, and seems to be eager to share his stuff with anyone who shows an interest. I'll try to get in touch with him and see if he has more to share, especially some documentation.
Eventually there may be some photos available. My mom has Alzheimer's disease and recently moved out of her home to a care facility. We've been cleaning out her home (50 years in one place, depression-survivor "save everything" syndrome) and we've come up with at least 10 boxes of unmarked photos, clippings, wedding invitations, funeral hand-outs, etc. It may be quite a while before we get to those, though.
That is really interesting that most of the Ellers in Washington are from the same line of Ellers! I have met Ellers here and there over the years, but have always presumed they were no relation since my great-grandfather was the only one from his large family that left Missouri and came this direction. I guess I just didn't go back far enough!
Thanks again, especially for your willingness to be "the keeper of the history." Most of us don't get around to seeing the importance of that until all the people are gone who could help us gather it.
Marilyn Schwartz
