Hi all
I am a new subscriber to this list. I reciently went to the web page,
http://hum14.ucsc.edu/ and found several interesting things. First,
Jacob Eller, 1756-1882, m. Magdalena Peters b. 1766, father Michael
Peters 1717-1807.
This is extreamly interesting, since my uncle who spent 30 years
researching the Peters family, had believed until his death in 1982,
that the father of the oldest Peters in our line was Michael Peters,
1717-1808. My oldest is Michael Peters, b. 1857, d. 1848. There were
two sources for the Michael of 1717, one of Wingfield's books on VA,
which listed a grave stone with 1717-1808 on it. Others burried there
are the children of my Michael. A second source for the "old" Michael
was a Flora genealogy published about 1957, the same year the Wingfield
book was published. I have now, a picture of the gravestone in
question and it apparently was miss read. It actually says, Peters, M.,
d. Mar 25 1847 A. 90y: 1M. I take that to mean he was 90 years old + 1
month. which makes him born in 1757. The Flora book, since it was
published the same year as the Wingfield book, is I feel in question,
and I had dismissed the "Old" Michael as likely not true since I had
knoledge of no other sources.
Now, if the information of Magdalena Peters being the wife of John Iller
and if her father was a Michael Peters 1717-1807/8 I need to know. I
also need to know the source of this information to check for myself.
Sorry, but I trust no one, when it comes to the oldest relatives. I
have requested information on the source for that web page listing and
decided that someone in the Eller group should know also.
I have Jacob Eller in my genealogy since one of my Michael's children,
Daniel Peters, b. abt. 1780, m. Elizabeth Eller, dau. of Jacob Eller.
I have about 16000 descendants of my Michael Peters and would be happy
to answer any questions. There are at least 60 Eller's in my genealogy,
as well as probably most of the other Church of the Brethren common
surnames.
Help!
