For whatever it's worth:

If your John Ebner is the son of Conrad and Catherine (Wertman) Ebner, he would not have been born in Derry Township of what would later become Montour County.

Conrad and Catherine were still very much part of the Ben Salem congregation in 1806. The handwriting in the church records of that era is not very good, and it's taking me a while to figure out many of the entries. However, both Conrad and his older brother Lorentz and their mother, Margretha were all communicants at Ben Salem at that time.

Margretha's husband John, evidently was already deceased by the time of your John's birth in 1806. It does appear likely that your John was named in honor of his grandfather.

Hope this helps,

Joe Hittle
4th great grandson of Lorentz Ebner
