There was item in the Beaumont Enterprise durning the past year that was
talking about a band of Indians (about 150) that were trying to get tribe
status through the Texas and US goverment. I think that it was stated that
these persons where of Cherokee Blood. This may give you a lead of some
kind. There is also a group for Native Americans in Houston I don't remember
the name but it is for displaced Native Americans that for some reason can
not get tribal status.
