Hi, All:
For all of y'all who were interested in the answer(s) to my question about
what counties were considered "East Texas", I am sending the "List" sort of a
summary of the responses which I received. I think these answers seem to
cover it pretty well. Again, many thanks --

Lana,
If there were awards to give out, you should get one for the best question of
the week. I am looking forward to the answer to this one!

Others would include Shelby, Sabine, Cherokee, Houston, Panola, Gregg,
Upshur, and Morris -- and there are more, but I can't think right now.
BTW: The county, and its seat, are San Augustine. St. Augustine is the
grass that grows there.

Hi,
Some of the counties are Polk, Liberty, Grimes, Houston, Tyler, Jefferson,
Freestone, Trinity, Leon, Montgomery, Shelby, Rusk. These are a few
off the top of my head.

You have a good question, it appears to me that from messages sent that
any thing east of Ft Worth and down as far south as the coast is
submitted. Say any thing east of Hwy 45. Once you get west of hwy. I45 you
get into the hill country they call it. The Texhoma board seems to be more
North East and Ok. I'll cc this to the net and see what others think.

Hi,
Good point and I don't know if there is an answer. To me East Texas was
always
Angelina, Nacogdoches and San Augustine Counties. If you were to ask my
relatives they would say the same. Areas such as Trinity County were called
the Big Thicket. I never considered Rusk as it was West of Angelina. But
living in
Houston since 1957 I have come to think of East Texas as South of Hwy 20, East
of Interstate 45 and North of Hwy 10. That encompasses a lot of Counties for
East Texas. Perhaps the list owner will shed some light on this subject. I
would like
to know also.
Later,
Hubert Cook
