Leigh,

A couple of years ago, I could not find the place of death and final
resting place of my uncle. I finally tracked down an aunt I had not seen
in many years and she gave me the name of the person who informed her of
her brother's death. This aunt had called my mother and informed her of my
uncle's death.) Anyway, long story short, I discovered through talking to
a chain of people where he had been living in Georgia. I called the County
offices of that Georgia county and they told me I could obtain more
information and quicker information by calling one of the two local funeral
homes. The first funeral home I called had handled his cremation. They
still had his ashes and I requested that they send them to me. We
scattered my uncle's ashes among his parent's graves. At least we now know
where he is. My mother who was terminally ill had asked me to please see
if I could at least find his final resting place, which is what began this
search. My mother passed away, before I had found her brother, but at
least I fulfilled my promise.

More to the point, I learned that funeral homes (at least here in Texas)
keep valuable records and I have used them as a starting point for several
difficult to find relatives. I would locate the funeral home in Rusk Co.
that performed his funeral. The records that they may have are: name,
birth date, birth place, parents names, survivors, type of work, religious
affiliation, how long lived in the county, etc.

I would also look in the 1900 Soundex for his name in Alabama. He should
appear since he was born in January. Then check the 1910 Soundex in
Texas. You should be able to locate him.
