Sarah Barnes. I have connections between the Barnes and Gordens back in
Washington Co., KY. I know some Jeffries and Dowells (McDowells) and
Tyrees/Tireys emigrated from Washington County to Polk County. Did the
Barnes, too? Noah's sister Dorcas b. c. 1772 VA married a Barnes. I
sure'd like to know more about this! <<

I wish I could tell you more! Sarah Barnes was born in MO ... in 1815
or 1820 or some other year (depending on which census you look at). I've
never found her parents or siblings. This is a family I don't work very
hard on. Did in the early years and could drive myself crazy and not
find anything. Now I just ignore them, for the most part, and every so
often there will be a great "find" and I take them up again for awhile.
Our Douglass line (and by association the Barnes and whoever else) is my
genealogical brick wall. I suspect that Sarah might be related to
Richard Barnes of Boone Co., NC who was in MO very early (he or some of
his kids had lived in Madison Co., KY, I believe). His children: Elias,
Equilles, Richard, Samuel, Shadrach, Amos, Abraham and Sally. These
children settled in Howard, Boone, Callaway, etc. Counties in MO.. Polk
Co. wasn't even formed until 1835 (from Greene), so any of the early
families had to have lived somewhere else... Howard (formed 1816 from
St. Charles/St. Louis Cos) and the surrounding counties were some of the
earliest, so there is a lot of MO history in those counties.

I'm sorry that I don't know more about our Barnes!
