To Jody, Barbara, Rose Mary, Rose & Diana:

You ladies have outdone yourselves! This project warmed my heart like the
memories of family kitchens warm and fragrant with baked goods in the oven.

What a wonderful Mother's Day tribute to our mothers & grandmothers you have
created! Thank you Barbara for sharing this heirloom book; and to Rose &
Diana for the long hours spent on the English translations; to Rose Mary for
managing the project and Jody for the creative presentation we have come to
expect.

The family traditions of baking are among our most cherished memories. When
we were young, we did not appreciate the advance planning and hard work
involved in the artful recipes our mothers created, which were so far beyond
simply providing nutrition!

Whether holiday specialties, seasonal treats using the fruits, vegetables,
nuts & spices of the harvest, or dressing up everyday ingredients or even
the reuse of stale goods to create a scrumptious new desert, baking is a
labor of love, as was the preparation of this delightful Cookbook to share
with all of us.

Thank you and a Happy Mother's Day to All!

Nancy Fredenberg

DVHH Announcement: Vintage Banat Cookbook Online - Happy Mother's Day!

We have a special treat, a Mother's Day gift to all the ladies (maybe some
guys) on the List and as a remembrance of our Donauschwaben mothers and
grandmothers who make their kitchens the warm and loving and marvelously
scented haven for us.

We are indeed fortunate that Barbara Wilson has shared with us her copy of a
treasured family heirloom, a vintage Banat cookbook titled "150 bestbewährte
Backrezepte" - 150 Proven Baking Recipes. Thank you Barbara!

Due to the generous time and effort of two of other DVHH members, Rose
Vetter and Diane Lambing, we can view the recipes in English. Those of you
who can read German will be able to appreciate the skills of our two
translators.

What is so special about this book is that with each recipe provides a
submitters name and the village/town they lived in Banat. We have provided
a handy cross-reference index to help you in locating a name/village/recipe.
Marie Lutye of Temeswar came in first place for submitting the most recipes,
2nd- Marie Scherer of Lugosch, 3rd- Käthe Steiris Hatzfeld, 3rd. Let us
know if you locate a relative of yours among these submitters!
This production has been a 2 month long process, what a task! I would
especially like to thank Rose Mary, Rose and Diana for their efforts in
translating and editing (lots of long hours!) in order to meet our goal, to
have it ready for Mother's Day. What great people we have among us!

You must check it out! Enjoy.....

Happy Mother's Day to all!
