Sanktanna Village Names:
German: Sanktanna, Neusanktanna
Official: Sîntana or Sântana
Hungarian: Szentanna
Spelling and/or dialect variants: Santanna, Sîntana
Formerly in the Banat in Austria Hungary, it is in the western part of Romania about 15 miles n/e of Arad.Postal Code: 2977,Railroad station: Sîntana. Sanktanna - Wikipedia (German) http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanktanna
In the history of Sanktanna it is reported that "Baron Jakob Bibich de Deva" recruited German settlers for the village sometime between, 1736 and 1742, he set up the school and the Catholic Church. Upon his death, the property was sold to count George Fekete de Galantha. While many of the German Sanktanna settlers families moved on to other areas in the Banat, or Batschka and Syrmia, a surprising number of descendants of the original German settlers still live in this village in the District of ARAD.
