Noticed on the manifest, the entry for Johann Hem, it has stamped Nov 28, 1944 and written beside it "Chicago." I wonder what that means and why it is on this 1903 manifest. I don't think I've ever seen this before.

Hi Charles,

>From the "Philadelphia Passenger Lists, 1800-1945" Records at Ancestry.com.
I have temporarily posted the manifest:
http://www.dvhh.org/cache/temporary/Szehner-Elisabeth-1903.jpg

Out to the side of the names is "SJ" - it's not shown on the below detention list, maybe someone can explain what "SJ" means.

"Alien Detention - Causes (Grounds) for Exclusion Noted on BSI (Board of Special Inquiry) Lists, ca. 1903-1924":

Jody,
In your post, March 18 @ 3:26pm below you noted Elizabeth SZEHNER was....
"Traveling w/ Maria Kern (Hem?) 24, child Elisabeth 8?, Johann ?;"

I tried to find this information with no luck. Can you tell me where you
found this.

Charles,
Well then, did you know Stephen and his family once lived in Elberta,
Alabama?
And there is a Pauline Szehner who died there also in 1919, is that Franz,
2nd wife?
About Elberta, AL, and about Stephen's WW1 draft registration card
information:
http://www.dvhh.org/finding-aids/elberta.htm

In case you don't have this info:
Wisconsin State Censuses, 1895 and 1905 > 1 Jun 1905 > Milwaukee > Cudahy >
18 - Roll: CSUSAWI1905_35.
Frank age 42, widower. From Austria. Sons: Frank 15, Charles 12, Willie 10.

Jody,

You are so good at this.Yes Franz & Elizabeth are my grand parents. Karl 8
(charles), is my father. They setteled in Cudahy,WI and worked as butchers
and sausage makers for Cudahy Bros. Packing House.

I have most of this information, but not all. Such as Traveling w/ Maria
Kern (Hem?) 24, child Elisabeth 8?, Johann ?; (I don't know of them.)

There was a Johann Szehner, age 27 to US, May 1903, est YOB 1876, Departed
Bremen, Germany to Port Baltimore, ship Frankfurt, last res: Tamasfalva.
Friends name Mathias Tobar.
(Ancestry.com Baltimore Passenger List 1892-1948)

Not sure who Johann is, but I'm pretty sure we are connected. I also
remember seeing name TOBAR or TABOR somewhere.

Pauline was my gf Franz second wife, Della was a daughter

Thank you so much for your help,
Charles S

Charles,
Is the (below) passenger record, your family? If so, they came into the Port
of Philadelphia. And if so, I also found a Frank (a butcher) and wife
Pauline with the same children, plus a daughter Pauline in the 1910 US
census (Cudahy Ward 3, Milwaukee, Wisconsin). Is Pauline his second wife?:

Port of Philadelphia

Subject: [DVHH] Wosar, Austria

RE: Wosar
In viewing my fathers Declaration of Intention, and Oath of Allegiance filed
May 9, 1924 at his age of 21 he stated the following.

Place of birth: Wosar, Austria in 1895
Has anyone on the list ever heard of Wosar, Austria ?

Other information on the documents such as ports of departure and arrival,
dates in 1903 and ship name he stated correctly. So I am wondering about
this place he called Wosar.

If I read it right it appears he signed the document in front of The Clerk
of said Court in 1917, but the stamped File Date is in 1924. ??

Passenger list, and other family records suggest he came from Busiasch,
Hungary.
Can anyone shed a light on Wosar?

Charles S
