Don

You are correct James Mullikin is not descended from the chief line, long
attached to the lands of Blackmyre in the parish of Penpont in Mid
Nithsdale. The proof lies in the Milligan/Milliken DNA study.

HI :

I'M THINKING THIS "JAMES MILLIKIN" MAY BE THE JAMES MILLIKIN OF MARYLAND
THAT SOME FOLKS, SUCH AS ONE OF HIS DESCENDANTS IN THE U.S.

"CLYDE MULLIKIN" (ONE OF THE OLE TIME MEMBERS OF ALAN MILLIKEN OLE GROUP "M
SOCIETY"), THOUGHT HE WAS A DIRECT DESCENDANT OF JAMES MILLIGAN OF
BLAKMYRE.

CLYDE INDICATED THAT HIS FAMILY BELIEVED THEY WERE DESCENDED FROM ONE OF
THE
" JAMES MILLIKINS OF BLAKMYRE, SCOTLAND, THE CHIEFLY LINE", BUT ALAN DID
NOT
THINK SO, AND IT NEVER HAS BEEN PROVEN. CLYDE IS OLDER THAN I, LOST HIS
WIFE OF MANY YEARS, AND HAS KINDA DROPPED OUT OF THE GENEALOGY GROUP, AS
HAVE OTHERS.

I ALSO HAD FANTIZED BEING FROM THE BLAKMYRE BRANCH, BUT HAD TO SETTLE FOR
MORE LIKELY THE "MORTON BUNCH" OF COVENANTORS, WHO THUMBED THEIR NOSES,
ETC.
AT THE KING.

I came into today by way of a collaborator a page from one of the old
published genealogies. Since the book title was not on the copied pages
other than (pg)218 Genealogical AND Memorial, I'll have to chase down the
source, and my guess is that it will be in Google Books, but I have not
checked yet.

Pertinent to MILLIKIN: I'll simply quote from the document "He died at
Walnut Grove in 1840. He married, April 26, 1803, Eleanor Bowie Claggett,
daughter of Wiseman and Priscilla Bowie (Lyles) Claggett, granddaughter of
Edward and Eleanor Bowie (Brooke) Claggett, great granddaughter of John and
Mary (*MILLIKIN)* Bowie, the former the son of the founder who came from
*Scotland in 1705--06, and a great great granddaughter of James Millikin,
the American founder of the family of the "Levels," Prince George County,
Maryland.*" Susan
