Hi Sandy,
It took me a while to figure how they decided which dots in Figure 2
to include in the TMRCA computation. The selection process uses a
"pathway of increasing frequency". One advantage to a small sample
size is you can see in the diagram why about 50% of the haplotypes are
not included in the TMRCA computation. The resultant TMRCA=1730 +/-
670 for what is a subset of R-M222 is hard to reconcile against the
TMRCA=1010 +/- 390 of R-M222 in Figure 1B.

That's interesting. Did Barra McCain happen to examine those who
thought they were of Scottish origin that in fact originated in
Ireland? My dad fell in that category and I think it was rooted in our
ancestors being Irish immigrants in colonial Australia where calling
one self a Scot was perhaps fashionable but more likely a way to avoid
discrimination.
