Subject: [R-M222] Geographical distribution of M222+
Date: Sat, 24 Mar 2012 14:07:43 -0000
There seems to be quite a bit of disagreement about the geographical
distribution of M222+. What I've done here is to summarise what the Busby et
al 2011 paper of 2011 reports for Western Europe. Note that there can be no
claims of dominance by North American DNA testees, so at least from that
point of view there is no reason to suspect that the figures are biased. The
sample size is on the small side, however, with 16,298 testees, of whom
4,658 were classified as having Western European origins. The summary is at

and the full details are at

The distribution in England is reported as :
No of M222+Population tested
Central 1 190
East 0 172
NW 5 47
SE 1 52
SW 0 48
Total 7 509
Note that 5 of the 7 M222+ found in England were found in NW England, in
other words just south of Scotland.
