That's possible, Don and Bernard. But the larger question might beg:
where did Fergus of Galloway come from? No one knows. There are also attempts
to link Galloway (and presumably Fergus himself) to the Gall Gaedhil (from
which Galloway is named) but that's pretty iffy too. There are only a
couple of Irish annal entries pertaining to the Gall Gaedhil - they just
describe small bands of them in different coastal areas of Ireland.

Some time ago I read that even though no one knows the antecedants of
Fergus of Galloway (1136, 1161) It is thought he belong to the aristocracy of
the region and did not come there from somewhere else.

There is some talk on this site about an early 13th cenury work called
the Roman of Fergus which apparently names his father as a variant of
Somairle and it's clear he had connections with the Viking kings of Mann and the
Hebrides.

But I'm sure none of this is new to the Galloway folks on this list.
