Thanks Don
I exchanged a few e-mails with a McIlhagga a while back. He had kindly
agreed to a DNA test in order to check for a link to McHarg. His DNA is
nothing like McHarg. He seems to have followed the pursuit even after the
test, and it seems that by May 2009, no DNA link had been found.
I've e-mailed him again to see whether anything has changed to his
knowledge.

Hi Sandy:
You may want to investigate a possible connection between McHarg and McHago
and MciIlHagga. One of my Milliigan ancestors married a McHago in Co.
Antrim in the 1600's, I believe. It is possible that her McHago ancestry is
connected to Ayrshire in Scotland. Don M

A far better genealogist than I am has suggested that McHarg may have
derived from MacGiolla Chairge, and refers to the annals of Fernmag or
Fernmaighe :
For 1062, Ruaidri, mac Con Cairge, tanaisi Fernmhaighe
In Scotland, McHarg is found mostly in the Galloway, Dumfries area, with a
hot-spot in Kirkudbright (pronounced Kirkoobree).

I found something in O'Hart. He has Finfailig as one of Fergus Mor's sons,
and O'Dugan as a direct descendant of Finfailig. I then found a DNA project
for Duggan (the chap that I match 35/37 spells his surname Dougan). The
Duggan site has 14 haplotypes, 5 of which look like M222 plus a 6th that
looks like M222 in that it has DYS385=11,13 but it has DYS392=13.
Add my Dougan to the Duggans and we have 7 M222's in Dougan/Duggan/Dugan out
of 15 haplotypes.
Interesting.
McHarg remains a mystery to me but I think I must do some more digging.
Sandy

Do you know of any connection between Dougan and Mac Buircce?
No. not really. MacLysaght mentions several groups with the name in
Munster and Connacht with no real info on any of them (O Duggan).
