Thanks for the clarification.

Of the list you provide

55860
83252
FMJ8P
PUYUK
W597B
ZBN55
4VFAV
45044
89556

I can see that 55860,83252,45044 and 89556 are Lamonts or variations from
the Lamont website. The first 2 are R1a and the last 2 are given as R1b1b2
and R1b1.

The remainder are

FMJ8PLamont from Uig, Skye, R1a. However, he is 55860 on the
Lamont site, so he's a duplicate.
PUYUKLamont Christchuch NZ, 12 marker test shown as haplogroup K
W597BBartlett from England
ZBN55Laymon from Rockingham VA, tested 12 markers Oxford
Ancestors and starts 12,22,15.
4VFAVLamont Kilfinan tested over 12 markers. Starts 13,24,14 but
does have 11,30 at the 11th and 12th markers.

So I can see what you've done and it's clear that you've gone to quite an
effort. But the duplicated R1a and the maybe R1a's (Laymon from Rockingham
and Lamont from Kilfinan) doesn't leave us with a very large group of R1a's.
Still, I suppose your hypothesis is possible.

I'm very interested in the M222 Lamonts you mentioned :

@
I see three M222 Lamonts who are pretty good matches for your
Pattersons. But two other M222 Lamonts who do not match this group.
@

I have records of only 2 M222 haplotypes with the surname Lamont. However,
George Young has me as a Lamont on one site but a Paterson on the other site
so you may have included me as a Lamont. Could you point me to all 5 Lamont
M222's so that I can check what I'm missing?

No, I don't think it is necessary to comb the databases again, at least not
for you to do it. I do it regularly anyway.

Sandy

Complete sincerity deserves a better answer than I gave. A while ago I
pulled down every single Lamont sample I could find in the public
databases, mostly Ysearch and the George Young site. What I said was
the single largest group of Lamonts in the resulting spreadsheets were
R1a Lamonts. Not a majority. The single largest related group or at
least related by haplogroup.
