<Frankly, I don't find anything about the British distribution of M222
to be inconsistent with a NE Irish origin at all.

I can think of one reason. There wasn't any M222 in NE Ireland. Or at
least enough to make any difference. M222 had just barely moved north
from Connacht at the time of the Dal Riata migration to Scotland.
