Paul, I have some feelers out trying to check on the author of that material
on Truroe, Tara and the Belgae (Tom O'Connor). No one seems to know much
about him but an archeology major in Ireland is looking into his books and
articles. Before I take him to seriously I'd like to get a feel for his reception
in scholarly circes.
Since I haven't read his book I can't really comment much but his thesis
seems to be that a group of Belgae from Britain (or Gaul) used a port in Galway
as an invasion point. And then established a royal city at Truroe in Galway
which is really the Tara of ancient Irish mythology. Then he seems to
connect the Connachta to Truroe as historical kings of Connacht. Wouldn't that
mean the Connachta were Belgae and came to Ireland from Britain or Gaul? Or am
I misreading what little is available online?
John
