I've had a look at the L21+ project website and in particular, had a good
look at the presence of
DYS 39025
DYS 385b13
DYS 39214
DYS 44818
DYS 44930
DYS 464c16
DYS 464d16
DYS 45617
DYS 60716
CDYa38
CDYb39
Although they are all present, they are present in quantities so low that
makes it very difficult to believe that L21+ is a parent of M222+. Ancestral
to, possibly. Parental to, I doubt.
So I'm beginning to think that there is at least one more SNP mutation
between L21+ and M222+, maybe more.
I've already donned my tin hat.
Sandy

I could easily change the software to check whether a given haplotype is
closer to (L21+,M222+) than it is to (L21+,M222-). Now it may be that no
such haplotypes exist, but by ranking the results in terms of 'relative
closeness', it may be able to identify those (L21+,M222-) haplotypes that
are closest to M222+, and who may therefore be possible candidates for
being
ancestral to M222+.
I don't think an L21 modal exists. But there are L21 haplotypes. We have
an ongoing Leinster modal project in which some of the major surname
matches
are Cavanagh, Kinsella and O'Byrnes, chieftains of the Lagin in Leinster.
So
far three members of this cluster have tested L21+. You can find the
haplotypes by going to the 464x ccgg project at FTDNA. Here's a modal if
you want
to use that instead (B9NW4). The R1b1c7 modal is M5UKQ.
According to mythology, the Lagin did not originate in Ireland but in SW
England (Devonshire and Cornwall) or perhaps in Armorica or Little Brittany
in
Gaul.
I don't have much of a database on L21 yet. Lots of L21s were reported on
the GEN-DNA list but I don't know if anyone kept track or if the list is
available somewhere. The 23andMe results file contains the following
surnames for
L21:
Jewett
McMillan
Price
Reynolds
Maver
Powell
Kenyon
Whalen
Duralt
Bullock
Wilson (R1b1c7)
McGinley (R1b1c7)
Other L21 results can be found in the L21 project at FTDNA.
