Subject: [R-M222] Gillespie 26,14 at DYS 481,487
Date: Wed, 3 Dec 2008 09:02:43 -0800 (PST)
>>The 66/67 match includes the very unusual combination of 26,14 at DYS
481,487. There are only two participants in the M222+ project that have
that combination, namely myself and a GILLESPIE. <<<
This is GILLESPIE DNA GROUP 5.
There are 9 kits in this group and four have upgraded to 67 markers.
All claim Ireland/Ulster as their starting point before arriving in
America. One family group arrived in the early 1700s and we have a
document that cites Ireland, but no specific location. We assume Ulster.
One family in this group is trying to document a connection to Kirkcaldy
and Kirkcudbright in Scotland as are other Gillespies in the project that
are I2b1 and I1 and were also in Ulster prior to early arrival in America.
So far I have been unable to confirm the DNA signature of the Kirkcaldy or
Kirkcudbright Gillespie families in question.
The family of the Gillespie Group 5 participant posted below arrived in the
U.S. much later and has a confirmed history in Donegal. We do not have a paper
trail between his family and that of the others that arrived in America in the
1700s.
I compared Group 5 Gillespies to the M222+ modal. The markers that
define them as a close family and mutate away from the modal in the
last panel are 557 - 15, 534 - 15, 481 - 26 and 487 - 14.
Cheers,
Connie McKenzie - Gillespie DNA Project Administrator
PS - my McKenzie ancestors are M222+, my Gillespie ancestors
are the I2b1 group.
