Sandy,
I know that feeling only too well.

I had a CONROY from Iowa, US in contact with me for years, convinced that we
were related, as I had a g-granduncle who emigrated to Iowa - despite the
fact that her relatives were from Galway and I'm from Laois. When I finally
got her to have a male cousin tested, we were not even closely related - me
(DFG6F) and her cousin (D62VA). I have another Conroy from New Jersey who
sends me "family" photos from time to time, convinced we are related by some
unknown means, and doesn't want to get tested.

Meanwhile, a DUNNE (3G5W3), from Laois, where my family is from and which my
family name is a branch of, and is my closest match at 24/25, and who I'm
certain is R1b1b2e or R-M222, but is listed a R1b* - won't get a deep SNP
test and won't join any projects or share information, except the DUNN
project.

Cheers,
Paul
