"Many Navajos nowadays have the surname Begay,
because when asked their names long ago, they gave their father's name and
added "Begay," which means "his son" in Navajo."
To get back to Irish matters, there is the story about the Chinese named Magillacuddy. When asked how he got the name he said he was behind a big Irishman in the immigration line who, when he was asked by the official for his name, said "Magillacuddy." When the Chinese moved up and was asked, he said "Sam Ting."
