Sandy, if you look at those Cenel Eoghain charts on my web site you'll see
two different possible lines of descent for the McLaughlins of Donegal.
That's where the different dates I quoted came from. The reason for that is there
are two conflicting pedigrees for the McLaughlins, one in Rawlinson B. 502,
the other in the Book of Leinster, both written in the 12th century. There
is no way based on the annals or any historical sources to tell which one is
correct, although most modern historians have thrown their weight behind the
earlier descent shown from Aodh Finnleith, d. 876. This is not shown on the
chart but according to the Ban-Shenchus his wife (or one of them) was
Mailmuire, the daughter of Kenneth MacAlpin, King of the Scots.
"Good Mael Muire was daughter of Cinaed son of Alpin,
a Scotch noble, and mother of Domnall son of daring
Fland and of white-toothed active Nialll Glundubh."
Another version has:
Mael Muru (ob. 913) ingen Chinaetha m. Ailpin rig Alban,
bean Aeda Findleith (ob. 879) mathair Neill
Glunduib (ob. 919) 7 Domnaill hUi Mail Eachlaind
