I threw together a spreadsheet containing every sample I could find for the
Anradan surnames:

MacSweeney, Lamont, McLaughlin (Maclachlan) and McEwan.

Anyone who wants to take a stab at this is welcome to download a copy.
But frankly I think it's impossible to say anything for sure. None of the
Sweeneys are listed as McSweeney. Some say their ancestors came from Ireland.
But Sweeney is a common name in Scotland, in northern England and elsewhere in
England. All Sweeneys are not necessarily Irish MacSweeneys.

One of the main Anradan surnames is Maclachlan (McLaughlin). I have every
McLaughlin in our project listed in this spreadsheet. Some are clustered into
coherent groups. As one of the Admins. of the McLaughlin surname project I
could not begin to guess which of these McLaughlins represent the Maclachlans
of Argyllshire. The data seems to be moving in the direction of non-r1b1c7,
but that's not saying much. In Scotland (among those who say they came from
Scotland) non-R1b1c7 seems to outnumber the R1b1c7 samples.

It looks to me like there are multiple origins for every one of these
surnames, including the Lamonts and McEwans. I'm also sure there are multiple
origins for the McLaughlin surname in Scotland. Pinning any of them down to
Argyllshire and the Anradan kindred looks to be almost impossible.

I have one McLaughlin group labeled "Donegal R1bc7". We believe this group
represents the MacLochlainns of Tirconnell, the closest kin to the O'Neills
of Ireland. They have some distinctive markers that stand out from the rest
of the project members. The two families either split apart in c. 900 AD. or
1000 AD. Most historians accept the earlier date as descendants of Aedh
Finnleith, the Irish High King who d. 876 A.D.
