I just ran across a sample that appears to be R1b1c7 and is labeled as such
by FTDNA. But it does have some off modal values, especially in the first 25
markers.

The DNA is for a family named Fleury (FXS2J). Origins for this family are
unknown except they know they came from Ireland ca. 1850 and have been told
the surname is of French Huguenot origin from about 1700 A.D in Ireland (France
to England to Ireland). That much I was able to confirm. McLysaght and
Woulfe state Fleury is a variant of the Irish Furey or Fury but I find this
doubtful. The Huguenot Fleury family is well known in Ireland and there are only
a handful of them in the Griffith's Valuations. The surname Fleury came
from a town in France.

No they haven't had an SNP test done. I might suggest it if anyone
questions this DNA.

Curiously, I have about 11 samples of DNA listing an origin in France from
various sources. Of these six also have 11-14 at DYS 385ab. In fact it's the
modal for the group. I'm not sure all of these are R1b1c7 either but all
have 14-29. I was surprised to see so many 11-14s pop up in this small group
of surnames from France since it's a fairly unusual value for R1b1c7. The
modal for this group at DYS 464abcd is 15-15-16-17 which is unusual as well.

Three of these came from the French Heritage Project at FTDNA. One from the
Sorenson site. One from the German project at FTDNA. The rest are from
Ysearch.
