John's suggestion of writing an article for a local newspaper is a good one. We have a delegation of Sligo officials arriving here in Tallahassee today (we are sister cities) and perhaps they can identify a regional newspaper for my area of interest--Banagh baroney in Donegal.
Several weeks ago, a Donegal researcher attempted to help me by locating a Byrne for testing but he was unsuccessful. He commented that the older folk in Donegal tend to be very suspicious of such endeavors. I learned this several years ago when I enlisted the Donegal Historical Society to help me. The secretary said she knew a Byrne in Killybegs who was interested in history and she thought would help, and she said would write to him. I did the same, then followed up with a phone call after I arrived in Ireland. Abrupt refusal.
But back to the PR idea, maybe numerous articles on the successes of DNA, emphasising the non-medical, non-intrusive aspects, would be of benefit to us all.
