Below are the results for the Mulligan of Westmeath. The results appear to
share key elements of the R1b1c7 haplogroup. Though, it has the value of 13
rather than 12 at DYS388. This could be a more recent random mutation. If
the
MacFirbis reference to the ‘Muinter Mailchen in Cineul Fiachaidh in
Kineleagh,
County Westmeath’ is correct, are there comparable DNA samples with the Ui
Failge. I understand the O'Connors were chiefs of the Clan? Are you aware
of
any research on this Clan?
Your DNA sample looks R1b1c7 to me. O'Connor Offaly was the chieftain of
the clan. I have one DNA sample for an O'Connor from Kerry Co. But that might
be for O'Connor Kerry, different stock entirely. The O'Connor Failge
pedigree goes back to Cathaoir Mor, an ancestor of the Lagin in Leinster. It
shouldn't be R1b1c7. But I think Pat Conroy of this list is also R1b1c7 and from
Offaly and looking at connections with O Dunne of Offaly. So who knows at
this point?

For this one O'Donovan refers to the Ui Fiacrach of Connacht,
p. 276, 277. As a Connachta clan these should be R1b1c7. His
notes here state that O'Ciardha were the only descendants of Nial
seated in the southern moiety of Leinster. MacFirbis mistakenly
placed them in Connacht instead.
