John,
These Fergusson are said to have originated with a man named Adam who
is sometimes to refered to as Mackinvaiss.
In a narrative written by in 1775 by Rev. Adam Fergusson, Minister of
Moulin, he lays out the genealogy of his family as descending from
Fergus Fergusson of Bellichandy circa 1573. He then asserts "Baron
Fergusson whose ancestors had extensive lands, viz., Dumfallandy, the
Ten Pound land of Derculich, the Ten Pound land of Dalshian, and the
third of Strathairdle and Glenshee, is our stem". We have DNA from a
descendant of the Rev. Adam and he is R1b1c7. If his assertion that he
stems from Baron Fergusson is correct then the Fergussons of Atholl
are R1b1c7.
The Rev. Adam also mentions that Adam Fergusson (1723-1816), Professor
of Moral Philosophy in the University of Edinburgh, also stems from
Baron Fergusson. We also have DNA from a descendant of Professor Adam
and he too is R1b1c7.
There are still some loose ends we are trying to sew up. Foremost
amongst these is illustrated by this statement of the Rev. Adam "there
are other two Heretors marching with one another in the parish of
Mouline of the clann, but not from the same stem with the Baron and
the Descendants of Adam: viz. Balledmund and Pitfourie."
Indeed we have sampling of other Fergusons from Perthsire and they are
not R1b1c7. These Ferguson have 'ordinary' pedigrees and we are unable
to draw any conclusions at this time.
I am familiar with the Leinster modal, we have only one participant
who definitely falls within that group and he can say only that his
emmigrant ancestor was from Scotland. Until we can identify the
haplogroup and clade of the "two Heretors" I wouldn't rule out a
linkage of the Leinster Ferguson to Atholl.
Finally, what did you mean by "ccgg at DYS 464"?
Cheers,
Colin
