Using 326 haplotypes with 37 markers from Wilson's R1b1c7 project
site, 30 years per generation and the default mutation ratres, i.e.
Chandler's, Wimpy's caIculator yields 1054 years.

Wimpy changed his 37 marker calculator since the last time I looked at
it. I couldn't make it work when excluding markers. His 67 marker
calculator still works the old way so I was able to use it instead by
excluding the last 30 markers. I further excluded the palindromic
markers and in this case the calculation yielded 1461 years.

I made an independent estimate using the PHYLIP package to construct a
rooted phylogenetic tree. I used the same 326 haplotypes as above,
excluded palindromic markers and applied Chandler's mutation rates.
The McGee utility was used to create the PHYLIP input data and
kitsch.exe to compute the tree.

The distance from the root to the present worked out to be 2040 years.

Colin Ferguson
