Subject: [DNA-R1B1C7] Dohertys and YCAab = 19-22

There's one Doherty marker which is fairly unique in R1b1c7: YCAab = 19-22.
Although they share other markers, we don't have a single Mclaughlin in our
Donegal cluster with this value but we do have one R1b1c7 McLaughlin (EQZP3)
who matches. Interestingly one McDevitt sample from Ysearch matches the
O'Doherty modal at YCAab. (ZV5HR). The McDevitts in Donegal are thought to be a
branch of the Dohertys, descended from Eachmarcaigh sronmail O Dochartaigh,
1197 FM
Eachmarcach O'Doherty (i.e. Gilla Sron-mael) immediately after assumed the
chieftainship of Kinel-Connell.

A foray-hosting by Aedh Ua Neill into Inis-Eogain and Ua Domnaill overtook
him, so that they gave battle, wherein were killed a countless number of
persons on each side. Here was killed Domnall Mac Murchadha of the Cenel-Eogain;
also Ferghal Ua Baighill and Cathbarr Ua Domnaill and Cormac Ua Domnaill and
David Ua Dochurtaigh, with a multitude of the nobles of Cenel-Conaill along
with them.
The entry in the O'Clery Book of Genealogies is as follows:
300. (Page 33, col a). Daueid (o tat clann Daueid), Ailin (o ttat clann
Ailin), Feabhal (o ttatt clann Feabhail), Gilla brighde (o tat clann meic Giolla
brighde), Domhnall og (o ttatt clann m Domnaill oig): ar sliocht Eacmarcaigh
oig meic Eacmharcaigh sronmhaoil atad.
David, from whom are the Clann Davids. Ailin, from whom are descended the
Clann Ailin. Feabhal, from whom are descended the Clann Feabhal. Giolla
Brighde, from whom are descended the Clann Mac Giolla bride. Donal oge, from whom
are descended the Clann or sept of Donal oge. All these are the progeny of
Eachmarcagh oge, son of Eachmarcagh sronmhaoil (noseless).
This passage lists the McDevitts (Clann David), MacAlins (Campbells?),
Giolla Brighde (McBride?) and an unknown Clann Feabhal as descendants of
Eachmarcagh O'Doherty.
Not every single Doherty has YCAab 19-22; a handful are 19-23, the R1b1c7
modal. I doubt this marker is anything more than a strong family indicator for
the Dohertys. An exact search on Ysearch returns only 32 matches, half of
them Dohertys plus a McDevitt and a McLaughlin.
