Your White House story is not complete .
The area was known as Jenkins Hill or Jenkins Heights . An 83 foot high hill .
It was purchsed from a descendant of Daniell Jenkins of Prince Georges , Md. for much less than its true value , by speculators , possibly David Burns was one of them , when they heard very early that a Capitol City was planned .
Mr. Burns did indeed hold up actual first layout and work .
But I think his was not a major part of the area .
Although very intersting info. .
Later Mary Eliz. [Jenkins ] Surrat , another desc. was the first woman hung in DC for her supposed part . She lived in Md. and Layfayette Square where a Chinese now occupys the spot of her home .
in the Lincoln Assassination .. In reality her son was the guilty party and went free from charges .
