Researchers conduct ethnic specific surveys, e.g.
Percentage of dentists who are Jewish, of doctors who are Irish, sport
champions who are Afro-Americans, etc.
also characteristics and physical attributes.
Ethnic groups are usually very varied in origin but nevertheless certain
predominant attributes are often noticed.
It would be quite a project to assign characteristics and attributes to
individuals and then, by inference, to their ethnic/race/culture/ etc.
Lets look at short people. Are they short because of insufficient diet at
ages 4 to 16?
Or are they short because the mixture of genetic material from their
ancestors that gave them this characteristic?
I believe that anyone who has the stamina and ability to stay focused on a
five year course of study to become a Phd in physics, a dentist or an M.D.
has the stuff that it takes to pursue ANY educational goal and succeed. It is
the choice they make that starts them off in one line of study---a stock
broker, a chemist, an anthropologist, a CIA agent, a college professor, etc.
The genes may give them the intelligence, tenacity and ambition to succeed in
the chosen field---but the parents supply the financing and the superior
interviewing skills allow them to gain admission to the educational program.
Without the financial support of the parents, and without the "sparkling
personality" of a first class interview, an individual set on becoming a heart
surgeon may have to settle for an education of a lab tech.
How do they make the choice? What factors contribute to their decision to
pursue a career as a research chemist or an FBI agent? Do these factors arise
from a certain combination of genetic material? Or do these
factors arise from other circumstances in the life experiences?
Just like the IQ tests, and whether they truly measure a quality in a
personality, how will we measure
human bodies of pro athletes? Tape measure on biceps and calves? Length of
femur? Space between the ears? between the eyes? Reflex response? Grades in
high school? Eye site?
I am certain that after examining 1,000 athletes, we will discover 10,000
more individuals with the same physical attributes that have found their place
in life conducting their daily routines investigating arson, driving trucks,
tending bar, serving in local governments on city councils, serving as
medics in Army, etc.
And we will also find that these individuals have never had an interest in
sports...

The goal is an Algorithm
If a subject has the following characteristics in his genome:
A B C D E F G ...X Y Z
Then there is a 95% probability that he
will be a full professor at a large university
or
He will be a pro athlete
or
He will have completed a PhD program prior to the age of 28
or
He will have a successful medical practice on a sub-speciality
or
He will be banker of trader on Wall Street
If a subject has the following characteristics in his genome:
a b c d e f ...x y z
There is a 95% probability that he
will be working at a minimum wage job for the first 10 years out of high
school
or
will have 17 jobs in 10 years
or
will be unemployed 4 months a year
or
will not be able to afford medical care for his children, and they will
become progressively sicker
or
will turn to illegal drugs in an attempt to escape from his rotten life
prospects
The Algorithm would be impossible to establish based on DNA alone.

What are the factors that cause a qualified individual to choose a
profession in Wall Street over a profession involving scientific research in biology
lab?
More money can be made trading grain futures than documenting tissue
samples.
An educator makes much less money , but they get some personal satisfaction
by passing on to young minds the knowledge they have gained in a subject area
that they have found to be most interesting.
Have you ever read the citations for the Congressional Medal of Honor? Some
have an interview with the individual. Many begin with the words: "...then
I got really angry and , without thinking, I just charged up the hill..."
I wonder what these guys have in common in their genome?
