Jeff,
Admirals tend to beget generations of officers in the family and McCann is one such name. You will see the same officer family names on promotion and Naval Academy graduate lists over many years. I worked with a McCann (female) who was a Naval Academy graduate in the mid 1990's. I have retired since then and lost track but I wonder if you tracked this Admiral McCann's line to the present day or looked for other McCann's in the Navy.. Great detective work on your part.
