I also urge everyone to take the SNP test and determine accurately if you
are M222 or not - of course if you have the same STR values as a close
relative, this wouldn't be necessary. This way we can eliminate false
positives, which can arise due to convergence. For instance I myself have a
Genetic Distance (GD) from the R1b1c7 modal - as outlined here
http://www.m222.net/R1b1c7 - as follows:

12-markers - GD of 1
25-markers - GD of 5
37-markers - GD of 14

Your Ysearch ID is DFG6F, isn't it? I would have picked out your STRs as NW
Irish or R1b1c7 despite the divergence from the modal. But you do raise an
interesting point. I wonder how many R1b1c7 matches really aren't M222+ due
to convergence?

David Wilson posted an interesting example a few months ago about a Wilson
who matched the NW Irish modal in STRs but has been tested (and retested) for
M222 and consistently found negative. If you want to see the sample go to
the Wilson Surname Project at FTDNA. He is listed under the heading
"R1b1c7-predecessor?" in the condensed format version.

If there is one there must be more.
