John,
Just to throw this into the hopper, Oppenheimer suggests the migration of his R1b-14 group from the Iberian ice age refuge to the west/northwest of Ireland circa 8000 BC. He discusses a later re-expansion of R1b-14a, 14b, and 14c-, and one or more of these subgroups went to western Scotland. I am not sure of the dates he suggests for this re-expansion, but presumably it occurred thousands of years later. If there is any basis to Oppenheimer's theories it is possible that one of the R1b-14 sub-groups contained the founder of R1b1c7.
