Hello, I am Jeffery Scism, genetically a McCann, and a r1b1c7 (tested).

My genealogy search is for my father's birth family. He was born out of
country and out of wedlock, in 1932. When he was 69, he fouond through
my genealogy hobby, his family that he had been separated from since birth.

He was raised by his maternal grandfather, and separated from his
mother completely. He didn't know the truth until 1998.

It took four more years for the story to finally get told, because
family secrets have always remained secrets, and when his Aunt was soon
to die, she decided that he should know, before it was too late.

She related that he was the son of "a man named McCann, who was in the
US Navy, (In Panama) and had something to do with Navy Construction".
Further that it was found out that this McCann guy was already married,
and that my father's grandfather took my father away from his daughter
and sent her back to the USA.

Circumstantially we have determined who my grandfather was, but because
there were no male offspring that survived past 1955, in that family,
we can not do a close comparison, but the details fit well.

I did the 37 marker test. It came back solidly in the middle of the
O'Cathain group of North west Ireland, the group McCann derives from.

It supported the family lore.

Also supporting the story as told is the military record of A. R.
McCann, who was in 1931 assigned to the Bureau of Construction and
Repair of the USN. He had been in Panama for at least 6 years previous
to the BoCR assignment, and knew my father's family. His military
records place him in all the right places at the right times.

A. R. McCann later became a Vice Admiral, and completed a very
distinguished career.

There was another possibility, but he doesn't fit as well, and that
man was also an Admiral, John McCain, II, father of the current
presidential candidate, the senator for Arizona. (He hasn't responded to
my request for dna comparisons, and his family is the less likely of
the two).

Jeff
