Rob,
The most common reason for missing persons that I have found in
searching the various Census reports is transcription errors of the surnames
either by the Census taker or by the monkey's hired by either Ancestry.com
or Find My Past to digitize their databases. I have sent in hundreds of
spelling corrections to both organizations over the years, as well as to
FreeBMD. I would suggest performing an address search or using wildcards for
various spelling possibilities in the search engine to help locate them. If
you are certain that they were living in Ugborough in 1901, you could do a
page by page search of Ugborough as a last resort. I know how tedious it can
be. Another trick is searching for first names within a town and a birth
year. Sometimes you can narrow down the list of candidates. Good luck.

Subject: [DEV] Missing from Census
Hello,
I wonder if anyone could possible shed some light on why people might be
missing from the 1901 census. I can not find any record of My 2nd Great
grandfather (Thomas LUSCOMBE b. 1862), his wife (Sarah Elizabeth b. 1853 d.
1942) and their children Louisa (b. 1886), Thomas Henry (b. 1889 d. 1983)
and William Howard (b. 1894 d. 1922).
They are listed on the 1891 Census as living at Glaze Brook Cottages and
Farm, Ugborough. Although Louisa is listed as being at her grandfather's
farm in Churchstow.
I might be missing it, but I can not find any record for the family in 1901.
I am fairly certain they were still Ugborough although Stoke Gabriel or
Slapton are possible locations but I have tried a Devon wide search without
any luck.
Any ideas of why they are not on the census or where I might look would be
gratefully appreciated.
